Country Eastern, a new show starring Vir Das, will premiere on ABC. In addition, he and Sam Laybourne will co-write and executive produce the comedy.
Vir Das, an actor, and comedian is set to write and star in Country Eastern, a new Fox comedy. According to a press release, the comedy series is about a young wealthy Indian man who relocates to America to re-establish his family’s existence. Sam Laybourne, who will also act as showrunner, will co-write and executive produce the project with Vir.
Vir is overjoyed that the project is currently in the works. “The series is currently being written. I’m ecstatic to be working with such incredible artists, each of whom has an impressive body of work. It’s a one-of-a-kind comedy, and I’m excited to start filming the series soon “In a statement, the 42-year-old Mumbai-based comedian added. Sam has written for sitcoms such as Black-ish, Cougar Town, and Arrested Development in the past. The series will be produced by CBS Studios and Fox Entertainment. Along with Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer, Reg Tigerman, and Ali Bell of Party Over Here, Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will executive produce the sitcom.
“In an attempt to rebuild their lives in Memphis, Tennessee, he decides to pursue his passion and become a country music singer. The only issue is that he’s completely s*** at it. He’s going to have to gain some life experience in the States if he wants to have something real to sing about,” the official announcement read. Vir has previously appeared on series like Whiskey Cavalier and Fresh Off the Boat. He will soon be seen in Judd Apatow’s upcoming Hollywood picture The Bubble.
