With his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield was able to not only make apologies with the studio, but also win back the broader public, according to Tom Holland in a recent interview.
The return and redemption of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man was one of the highlights of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Andrew’s Spidey was a divisive character in the fandom before his return, but his return made him a fan favourite, which his successor Tom Holland has noted as well.
In a recent interview, Tom discussed how Andrew regained the trust of his followers while also making apologies with the studio. He even went so far as to support the fans’ demand for Andrew to reprise his role as Spider-Man in his own film. Fans initially praised Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man, but the films and his portrayal garnered mixed reviews and reactions when the series returned for a second instalment. This resulted in the series’ unexpected cancellation and a reboot with Tom Holland taking over as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was released in 2016.
His performance in No Way Home, on the other hand, has been hailed by fans. On the Phase Zero podcast, the film’s star Tom Holland said, “I think what was so fantastic was how Andrew was able to kind of make peace with the character and the studio, you know, to kind of win the general public back.” Tom mentioned the fans’ campaign to get the Andrew Garfield-starrer series back on track and give the character closure with The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The film was supposed to be released in 2017, however it was postponed in favour of Tom’s films. “, he explained “The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is something I’d like to watch. The audience’s emotions in the theatre were incredible when he saved Zendaya in that sequence. So, if Sony decides to do so, they’ll have my full support—and, of course, Andrew’s as well.”
