Kannada television actress Chethana Raj died after developing complications due to fat-free plastic surgery at a private hospital in Bengaluru. The surgery occurred at Dr. Shetty’s Cosmetic Clinic in Rajajinagar. The 21-year-old actor’s family has complained to the cosmetic centre where she had undergone the procedure.
The actress was a resident of Chikkabanavara and was famous for television serials like Geetha and Doresani. Raj had reportedly undergone a fat-free surgery on May 16, soon after which she experienced some breathing difficulties. Some local media reports suggest that fluid had accumulated in her lungs that caused her breathing difficulties. But, there was no ICU available at the hospital where she got operated. The actress was then rushed immediately to the Kaade hospital. According to the police, efforts were made for 45 minutes to save her life.
An ICU intensivist at Kaade hospital stated that the patient could not be resuscitated as it seems she was brought dead to the hospital. Chethana’s father said that she had asked her permission to undergo the surgery, but he declined to permit her as it was unnecessary. But going against his will she went ahead with the surgery and lost her life due to negligence. He further questioned the cosmetic centre how they conducted surgery without taking consent from her parents.
In a report, Kaade hospital authorities said, “Around 5.30pm on Monday, one doctor named Melvin, who is an anaesthetist, barged into Kaade hospital with a patient who was unresponsive (found later) disregarding all protocols of the hospital and threatened the security for stopping him and took (the patient) directly inside (the) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and demanded doctors to treat the patient and indicated that she had suffered a cardiac arrest.”
The report further states that no patient file or any other notes were given to them. The patient was not responding and she was found to have no pulse. But on the doctor’s insistence, CPR was initiated but she couldn’t be revived. He also added that the cosmetic centre doctors knew she was brought dead into the hospital but declared it later, around 6:45 pm. The management team of Kaade hospital had filed a complaint against the doctors from Shetty’s Cosmetic Centre.
Incidents like these raise a very strong question on how safe these plastic surgeries are. How one’s desire to look a certain way can cost a life.
