What was expected to be another beautiful memory for BTS and Army turned into a rather sad occasion when the bangatan boys announced a hiatus at their annual Festa dinner, which was a part of the anniversary celebration. The band members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, dropped this news on Tuesday when they gathered for a pre-recorded annual dinner which was streamed on YouTube. In their hour-long video, the members reminisced about their journey, joked, drank, and even talked about what is stored in the future for them as soloists and band.

The dinner was arranged at the old house where BTS used to stay together as a band before they started living individually. The contract for the house is over now. Hence, all the members came together in order to cherish the memories one last time. Sharing his memories of living with other band members, Suga aka Min Yoongi said, “Seven boys living together is not as easy as it seems.” While Kim Taehyung aka V, explained that all the members had developed a much stronger bond since they started living apart.

Initially, the members were talking about random fun stuff, and they also discussed how each of their current homes reflects their personalities. However, this happiness turned into sadness when the band’s second oldest member, Yoongi said they should discuss the hiatus. Namjoon (RM), the band leader, broke the ice by telling how he has been feeling lost and directionless as a member. “I just do not know what is happening, after releasing Butter and Permission to Dance, I have been getting the feeling that I do not know what kind of band we are anymore. I always thought BTS was different from other bands, but we are still a part of the Kpop industry. I feel that we should have taken this break long ago; we were just putting it off.”

“It’s not like we’re disbanding. We should live doing what we want to do. We’ll probably die when we reach 100, and we can’t be BTS until then. I don’t think that’s an easy feat to achieve. Writing lyrics is the most challenging. What message do we want to give? Nothing comes out anymore.” Suga expressed. He further said that some time apart would be healthy for the group’s development and urged the fans to not think negatively about the whole scenario.

All the members will now be working as soloists, starting with J-Hope, who is all set to perform at the Lollapalooza music festival. By the end of the dinner, everyone got emotional, including the members, as they shared words of gratitude for their ARMYs. RM, J-Hope, and Jimin were all seen sobbing and wiping tears. In the end, Jungkook, the youngest member, summed up his message by saying, “I promise that we will be back and that too more mature than ever. Till then, all we ask for are your blessing.” This gave Army a ray of hope. On the other hand, RM remembered their achievements like their speech at the UN, White House visit, etc. He ended by saying that the new and better chapter of BTS is yet to come and that he hopes it will be the best.

Earlier also, BTS went on a hiatus, first in 2019, then in December 2021. However, the earlier ones were only for a few weeks. The news came just some days after the band released Proof, an anthology album.
