Adipurush, one of the much anticipated Indian films of 2023 with a big budget of INR 600 crore was released on Friday (June 16, 2023). Saif Ali Khan, Prabhas, and Kriti Sanon play the role of Ram, Sita, and Ravan, respectively, in the Om Raut-directed film, based on the Ramayana, a Hindu mythological tale. Even before its release, the film was stuck in the midst of a lot of controversies and honestly, there has not been much difference even after the release. Though the film has had a box office collection of around INR 340 crore still it has been receiving backlash. Let us have a look at some of these controversies.

Poor dialogues hurting the sentiments?

Right after its release, people pointed out the poor dialogues that were not only ridiculous but also hurt emotions and were not at all a true depiction of history. One of Hanuman Ji’s dialogues, “Jo humari bahano ko haath lagyenge, unki lanka laga denge…Kapda tere baap ka, aag tere baap ki, tel tere baap ka, jalegi bhi tere baap ki,” became a significant trigger point. People stated that if the movie is based on gods then the language should also be used that suits them.

  • VFX are just meh?

People have been calling out the makers for extremely bad VFX. They said that VFX does not look realistic at all and also mentioned that old depictions of Ramayan were far better in accordance with that time. Because of all this people developed a newfound respect for Brahmastra and the quality of visual effects everyone witnessed. Netzines expressed how Brahmastra just had poor dialogues but Adipurush had both bad dialogues and even worse VFX.

  • Wrong info leading to film’s ban in Nepal?

The film’s release in Nepal is still doubtful in light of Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah’s call on Thursday to outlaw all Hindi films after objecting to a line spoken in the movie. The movie contains a dialogue in which Sita is referred to as a “daughter of India,” according to Mayor Shah. He stated on social media that Sita is regarded as Nepal’s daughter and gave the filmmakers three days to change this statement if they wanted the movie to be released on time. Moreover, he has also said that maybe after this, there will be no release of any Indian movie in Nepal.

Adipurush makers have now announced that they will be editing some of the dialogues but will that be enough? Will the film be a hit or will it just break even or maybe not even that? Well, to be honest, there have been a lot of speculations and all we can do is sit back and see what else unfolds! Do let us know your thoughts about Adipurush!
