Dharmendra turns 86 on Wednesday, and his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, as well as his daughter Esha Deol, took to social media to wish dad a happy birthday.
Sunny and Bobby Deol have posted photos with their father, Dharmendra, in honour of his 85th birthday, which was celebrated on Wednesday. “Happy Birthday PAPA love you,” Sunny Deol wrote on Instagram beside two photos of Dharmendra. In the photos, the father-son combo smiled as they stood close to each other. Bobby also posted a photo of himself with Dharmendra with the words, “My papa the legend Wish you love from the bottom of my heart. So blessed to be your son #HappyBirthday.” Actress Esha Deol, Dharmendra’s daughter, also shared a photo with him on Twitter,“Happy birthday papa be happy, healthy, strong & fit I love you Stay blessed U are our strength @aapkadharam #HappyBirthdayDharmendra.”
Dharmendra recently returned to Mumbai after completing filming in Delhi for Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. In Karan Johar’s film, Dharmendra will star with Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Alia Bhatt, and Ranveer Singh. Dharmendra recently posted photos from the sets on Instagram and wrote,“Dosto, pyaar mohabbat izzat itni milli sab se (Friends, I’ve received so much love and respect from everyone)….pata hi nahin chala main nayi unit ke saath kaam kar raha hoon (I didn’t even feel like I’m working with a new unit)…”
Dharmendra told Hindustan Times in an interview ahead of his birthday that he stopped celebrating his birthday when his mother died.”I have just returned after finishing my shoot in Delhi. I don’t have any birthday plans as such, our na hi kabhi birthday plan banaya hai maine (and I never made birthday plans). I stopped celebrating my birthday after my mother’s (Satwant Kaur) death.”
He did say, though, that he is grateful for the love he receives from supporters “I know I have turned 86, but I don’t think about my age. I just work with honesty, aur khush hota hoon jab log abhi bhi pyaar karte hain (I am happy that people still love me). For them, I am still the same Dharmendra. I feel I was born to love and get loved.” Dharmendra’s cinema career began in 1960 with the release of Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. He went on to star in films such as Phool Aur Patthar, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Sholay, and Naukar Biwi Ka, among others.
