Netflix has officially confirmed the return of its hit drama series ‘Squid Game’ for season two. A brief teaser of the same was released by the streaming platform on June 12. Along with the clip, a message from writer, creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk revealed details regarding the return of characters.
Netflix, in the tweet, wrote, “Red light… Green light! Squid Game is officially coming back for Season 2!” Hwang Dong-Hyuk, in a statement, said “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever.” He further, being the writer, director, and producer, thanked the fans for showering so much love on the drama series ‘Squid Game.’
His statement further teased a part of the story and follow-up season, revealing the return of the Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) and the masked foe, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).
The teaser released by Netflix shows an eye similar to Young-hee, a robotic eye indeed. The three famous geometric symbols of the series appear on the screen, and the eye lights up in red as her robotic voice sings the phrase. Executive producer Kim Ji-Yeon said they are currently working on the script and creating the form of the story. He further stated that they are under a lot of pressure to make the second season joyful and even better for global audiences.
Lee Jung-Jae, who played Gi-hum in the first season, won Screen Actors Guild Award for his outstanding performance. According to reports, the first season of ‘Squid Game’ becomes the biggest TV show ever, with 1.65 billion hours of watch time in the first four weeks. In January, the release of more drama episodes was confirmed by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
