On Wednesday night in Mumbai, Ranveer Singh was grinning as he joined his 83 co-stars and the 1983 World Cup-winning squad for a special screening of the year’s most-anticipated film. The star-studded occasion brought together the crème de la crème of Bollywood to watch the 83 team’s labour of love before it heads to the theatres for public viewing. While Ranveer was as enthusiastic and animated as ever, an awkward moment between him and cricket icon Kapil Dev was captured on video when they greeted each other on the red carpet.
When Ranveer saw Kapil Dev arrive for the gala premiere, he radiated enormous gratitude, sporting a ponytail and looked very much the man of the moment in his white tuxedo and black bowtie. And as soon as they clasped, Ranveer was seen going for a peck. When their image was posted online, however, it became an embarrassing situation. Meanwhile, the World Cup-winning cricket team of 1983, dubbed as Kapil’s Devils at the time, walked the red carpet with their wives for the special screening. Based on the victorious team, the film tells the narrative of underdogs who no one believed in. Against all odds, the team defeated the legendary West Indies team to win the championship. Ranveer Singh has taken on the role of famous Indian captain and one of the best all-rounders, Kapil Dev, for the film.
Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R. Badree, and Pankaj Tripathi act alongside Ranveer. Deepika Padukone will play Romi, Kapil Dev’s wife, in a cameo appearance.
