Prithviraj is Akshay Kumar’s third IMAX film, as well as the third YRF production

The teaser for Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar, was released online a while back by the film’s producers, Yash Raj Films (YRF), and it received a lot of positive feedback. The 82-second trailer has been praised for its grandeur, scale, top-notch visual effects, and Akshay Kumar’s commanding presence. Prithviraj is also being released in IMAX format, which has piqued the interest of the trade and fans. Everyone agreed that a film like Prithviraj should be released in IMAX because it deserves to be watched on the biggest screen imaginable.

In fact, Prithviraj will be Akshay Kumar’s third film to be released in this coveted format. His time sports drama Gold (2018) was previously released in IMAX. 2.0 (2018), a sci-fi film co-starring Rajinikanth, was also released in IMAX that year. Prithviraj is the third film from Yash Raj Films to be presented in IMAX theatres around the world. Dhoom 3 (2013), starring Aamir Khan, was the first Bollywood film to be released in IMAX theatres. Vijay Krishna Acharya directed it, and his following film, Thugs Of Hindostan (2018), was also released in a similar manner.

Bang Bang (2014) starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmaavat (2018), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), one of Indian cinema’s greatest hits ever, and Prabhas’ actioner Saaho (2017) are among the other films released in IMAX (2019). As a result, Akshay Kumar is the only Indian actor to have three IMAX films under his belt. Following Aamir Khan, who had two films that were released in IMAX movies like -Dhoom 3 and Thugs Of Hindostan, is Prabhas who starred in Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Saaho.

A trade expert said, “Hollywood churns out so many IMAX-worthy films every year. On the other hand, we have had just 9 films in 8 years that have been released in this format. With Bollywood and regional industries making grander films with each passing year, let’s hope the day is not far when we’ll have 9 Indian releases in IMAX in one single year.”
