After her tearful part in Gehraiyaan, Ananya claims Shakun ‘laughed in her face’

Ananya Panday admitted that seeing Shakun Batra in splits after one of her extremely emotional passages made her doubt her performance.

Ananya Panday told an incident from the set of Gehraiyaan about how director Shakun Batra’s behaviour after one of her difficult sequences made her question her acting abilities. She claimed she ‘wailed and cried’ throughout the encounter, and when she emerged, he was ‘laughing in (her) face.’

Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Dhairya Karwa star in Gehraiyaan, which also stars Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor in supporting parts. The film explores the complexities of contemporary relationships.”There was this time where I truly had to cry and put all my emotions,” Ananya remarked in an interview with Film Companion. ‘This is my big scene,’ I thought. I made a note of it in the script. ‘Today is going to be the day,’ I thought. I went inside because there was just me and Shakun outside. I’ve been crying nonstop, and I’m sure Shakun will remark, ‘Wow, what a performance.’ When I emerge, Shakun is giggling uncontrollably. He’s laughing right in my face. “Uh, have I done a pretty bad job?” I wondered.

“On the other hand, I feel Shakun has a problem with people crying.” He can’t keep a straight face, which is astonishing given his sensitive nature as a director. Deepika and I once shared an intense scene. She said, “Shakun had to be escorted to another room because he couldn’t stop giggling.” Filming Gehraiyaan was a ‘absolute high moment’ in Ananya’s career, she said ANI. “While Gehraiyaan digs into the difficulties of relationships, it also covers the thrill of falling in love, discovering oneself, and charting one’s course,” she said.
