We all remember how Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan made his debut in the film Phool Aur Kaante, when he was shown doing a split on two motorcycles. With the release of the film in 1991, Ajay has now worked in the Bollywood industry for 30 years. Under director Rohit Shetty, the actor has given us numerous amazing films such as Drishyam and Tanaji, as well as leading two of the most well-known franchises, the Golmaal series and Singham. During an interview with an open magazine in 2009, Ajay Devgan discussed his debut. “Back then, there were three other Vishals appearing at the same time, and I had no choice but to alter my name to Ajay so I wouldn’t get lost in the crowd,” Ajay explained. My old acquaintances still refer to me as VD (I know, it sounds strange), and I altered the spelling of my surname at the request of my mother, Veena, who has been requesting it for years. It brings her joy.”
In an interview with Hindustan Times to commemorate his 30 years in Bollywood, Ajay remarked,“It was my father’s (Veeru Devgan) dream to launch me as an actor. I was just required to focus on realizing his dream. Whether I would be successful or not is a thought I didn’t toy with at that stage. I just did what I was told. No one can enter the movies planning stardom for themselves. You have to work hard and pray your destiny carries you forward. When Phool Aur Kaante became the craze it did, I was catapulted to stardom. Every daredevil youngster in the country wanted to make his way through life doing a split on two motorcycles! I was immature, young, unprepared for stardom. God, my parents’ blessings and the blessings of the industry and fans gave me the adulation a star receives.”
With 30 years in the Bollywood industry, the dynamic actor is unquestionably one of the best artists B-town has ever produced! Ajay was most recently seen in Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, in which he reprised his role as Bajirao Singham in a cameo appearance. Singham 3, Golmaal 5, and MayDay! will be his next film.
