Filmmaker Amit Roy recently announced that he had quit Shah Rukh Khan starrer film Dunki by director Rajkumar Hirani amid creative differences. DOP has opened up about why he had to leave the project midway after being part of the filming for 19-20 days. He also explained the reason for the non-interference of lead actor Shah Rukh Khan in this matter.
Amit Roy has previously collaborated with director Rajkumar on several projects. The decision to take exit from the film was an amicable decision. On the question of if Shah Rukh Khan tried to resolve the differences between him and director Rajkumar Hirani, he replied, “It was a thing between a director and DOP. SRK is anyway too gentlemanly to get into that relationship. Neither would he have asked Raju Sir to shoot with me, nor would he have had any other opinion on it. He was not a factor in my decision.” The filmmaker, after quitting Dunki, has moved on to film for Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s Animal, starring Shamshera actor Ranbir Kapoor opposite Rashmika Mandanna.
Amit had earlier said that he never wanted to reach the stage of friction, and because of this, he decided to quit. He further revealed that since last year, when the film was in the pre-production stage, he had been working on it. And so, he wanted the film to be the best, and hence he quit. The filmmaker started his career as a cinematographer in 2003 with the film Ishq Vishk. He later worked on several films like Dil Maange More!!! (2004), Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag (2007), Sarkar Raj (2008), Deewana Main Deewana (2013), etc.
The film Dunki will release in the theatre on December 22, 2023. The film is backed by Rajkumar Hirani Films, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Jio Studios.
